Currently and Sentence Roundup

I am loving Farley's new blog design!  Makes me want an upgrade as well!  Here's March's Currently...enjoy!

listening- It's pretty quiet where we live...down a dirt road you don't get much traffic or noise so I often hear the clock ticking and have the TV on for background noise.
loving- This is my second semester taking quilting.  I didn't realize I would like it so much but I do!  I am starting my second quilt and this is the first block.
Each block will be different with the same color scheme.  I will learn new skills with each block.  It's fun to have new curriculum every week.
I am also LOVING iFontmaker.  I have been trying out my font making skills and iFontmaker makes it really easy.  I hope to have some fonts up in my store soon.
thinking- I can NOT believe it is March...oh my glory...how did that happen.  I have a feeling I'll be saying this every month.  My husband's big 3-0 is coming up in two months.  I think I might have to plan a big party! :)
wanting- My husband and I have a big backyard that needs some major TLC.  We have been looking at pavers and block.  We can't wait to see what the final product will look like!
needing- Pavers and block are expensive!  Hopefully our tax return will help.
?????- Can you guess my question?  Leave me a comment to guess!

Sentence Roundup packet is DONE.  Hope you like it! :)

February (really?!?) Currently

I love to start my month off right with Farley's Currently!  You should too!

http://ohboy3rdgrade.blogspot.com/2014/01/currently-february.html

Listening- It is a brisk Saturday morning.  We had some rain overnight and the birds are out and about enjoying the first sunlight coming through.
Loving- While I love vacation time it is also nice to just be home together on a Saturday.
Thinking- I woke up thinking...oh my gosh...it's February!  I can't believe that January flew by so so fast!
Wanting- Since I am retired I have been trying to find a routine that I can stick to.  It's hard to do for some reason and I feel reallly lazy most of the time which makes me feel awful about myself so it's just a nasty cycle that I am ready to bid farewell to.
Needing- I still have suticases semi-unpacked in the bedroom from our cruise.
2 truths and a fib- 1. Yes!  I hated taking classes with my hubby in college (we weren't married yet).  He was a suck up and I hated that it worked out for him all the time!
2. No! Here's me trying escargot and my reaction to it...

3. Yes! I have always wanted a large family and at this rate I might as well have multiples to make our family grow faster!

Happy weekend and apple on everyone!

January Currently

Hello January! I've been in a funk lately. I was depressed.  I missed teaching (especially all those fun activities and excitement that happens in December) and other feelings that I will explain later in this post. But I am happy to be blogging again and nothing gets me going like Farley's Currently!

http://ohboy3rdgrade.blogspot.com/2013/12/january-currently.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blogspot%2Fjtmhg+%28Oh%27+Boy+4th+Grade%29

Listening- The hubster's watching Mythbusters and I am blogging with the laptop on the couch.
Loving- My one little word is faith.  My husband and I want to have children. We have been been trying for the past two years to become pregnant. It has been very difficult for both of us.  I have become frustrated and even angry with Heavenly Father that he won't grant us the privilege of becoming parents. I  know that I am lacking faith in His plan for us. My choice is to try to the best of my ability to trust Him and regain the faith that I have lost.
Thinking- Sunday school has been eventful...to say the least...they are teenagers after all. I have looked at the lesson for tomorrow but need to print and finalize my thoughts.
Wanting- I got a gift card from my friend Devon for Scrappin' Doodles!  Can't wait to use it! I'll be checking it out tomorrow!
Needing- Oy! I haven't taken down any Christmas decorations yet.  Christmas knocked me out and then we were out of town for New Years so I haven't gotten to it yet.
Memory- This was our first Christmas in OUR first home! I will always remember sipping apple cider by the fire Christmas Eve and being able to wake up and check out our stockings in our own home for the first time Christmas morning.

Thanks for reading!  I will be back later this week with a gift idea for a young couple or for your significant other. Apple on!

December Currently

YAY!  It's December I'm linking up with Farley over at Oh' Boy 4th Grade for this month's Currently!

Listening- My dad always, always, always, listens to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. While I use to think that was lame I am loving their holiday station on Pandora.

Loving- This month is busy!  We have church, family and friend Christmas parties to go to. Now if I can only get my husband on board with going all over the place this month.

Thinking- I am really excited for the Cyber Monday and Tuesday sale...I'll show you the prodcuts that you can buy from my store later in this post. I am wondering what I should buy.  I don't need anything for a classroom since I currectly do not have one but maybe I could snag up some adorable fonts and clip art to make more products for you!

Wanting- Hubster and I went to look at trees yesterday but didn't select one yet.  I got out a couple of decorations and wrapped a few presents but can't wait to get a tree tomorrow!

Needing- I set a goal to have all boxes unpacked from our move five months ago by the new year but I feeling some serious lack of motivation because they are boxes of files and paperwork.  Ugh!

Favorite Tradition- This was hard to pick because I actually just love every minute of the holiday season.  The white elephant gift exchange is something my husband's family does and the whole family participates.  We have bought some funny and awful gifts for it...such as...the game where the dog poops (picture found here) and spam with a side of gum and a butt face towel (picture found here). It is just too much fun!

Who's ready for the big cyber sale!?!?!
I am so excited to be participating in my first teachers pay teachers sale.
I am offering 20% off of these products Monday AND Tuesday.

Loving- I live in southern AZ. Now I will totally sport a sweater and boots to the local Wal-mart even if its 80 degrees outside this time of year.  Next weeks forcast...below 70!  YAY!

Thinking- I teach Sunday School every week and really need to get my lesson planned for tomorrow :0
I have been working on the Comparing Number power point and have ran into lots of little snags which is making it take so long...boo!

Wanting- I have been eating less carbs lately and boy is it hard for me!  I would love to just indulge and eat a donut and have some hot chocolate (along with that much anticipated cooler weather).

Needing- My best friend is getting married as I have mentioned in previous posts.  Both my hubby and I are part of the wedding...which is a week away!  I gotta get laundry done and get packing!

A Yummy Pin- Homemade Naan from Budget Bytes which is an awesome place to look for low budget, well explained recipes. I must be craving carbs to show you this.  I love Indian food and Naan is so yummy. I made this Naan last night and had just one...or two :)

I better get to that Sunday school lesson...Apple on!

Currently March and Dr. Seuss' (Belated Birthday)

(Hop on over and see Farley here!)

Oh happy day! It is March...I know it is 5 whole days into March. We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday all last week by reading his books and doing this fun activity with "Green Eggs and Ham." I made my students a treat for the occasion.  I bought vanilla candy coating, melted it and put a green M&M and pretzels (to represent ham). I got the idea from this pin I pinned on Pinterest a while back. Then we wrote about what other green food we do not like!  Here are some samples...first grade translation provided for free :)

"I do not like green chicken. I would not eat it when the dog barks.  I would not eat it in the parks."

"I do not like green meat. I would not eat them on a roof. I would not eat them with a tooth."

"I do not like green pizza. I would not eat it with a bear. I would not eat it in a lair."

I wholeheartedly agree with that last one!  Who wants to eat with a bear?!?  Too cute and they had so much fun!  Happy belated birthday Dr. Seuss!  Apple on everyone!

Currently, A Freebie, and Counting/ Segmenting Sounds

Thanks to Farely over at "Oh Boy Fourth Grade" for the festive December Currently.  I love the cute Christmas lights on it!  I also have my Friday Freebie waiting for you...click on the picture below to get yours...opps it's really Saturday but I had a hot date with the hubs so the freebie had to wait :)

I just put a set of 6 worksheets for counting and segmenting sounds...you can click on the picture above to get your set.  We have been working on magic, bossy, silent (so many names for a letter!) E in my walk to read class.  I have the lower group and while they are the sweetest kids on the planet it is definitely a challenge.  Getting phonics rules to stick in their little brains takes a massive amount of energy and creativity and maybe me acting like a nut once in a while.  I will share some pictures and other goodies with you that we have been doing in class with magic, bossy, silent E next week.  Happy weekend and apple on!

November Currently and TBA Friday Freebie

Happy November!  Did anyone else have sugar coma kids in their class for the past two days?  You know, the kind of kids that when you are directly instructing them they completely ignore you or stared at you blankly with unfocused eyes.  Or did you have the kind of kids that were the exact opposite...getting up constantly, taking constantly, bouncing for no apparent reason except to bounce.  We had fun dressing up for spirit week this week but I am definitely looking forward to a regular week with no costumes or sugar coma kids in my classroom! I'm linking up with Farley and I think her November currently is just gorgeous! Please forgive me...mine is fuzzy...I'm still learning how to work with some of this blog stuff.

On Wednesday (Halloween-don't mind their weird outfits :) I taught my students the relationship between addition and subtraction facts using a part part whole diagram and candy corn!  They were highly motivated for the candy!  We used compartment plates that are separated into three sections…part part are the two smaller sections and whole is the larger section. Here are some pictures of our diagrams in action...

My freebie is a worksheet that I had my students use to show how they use the part part whole diagram to represent related addition and subtraction facts.  Click on the picture to snag yours. Enjoy!

Apple on!
