Apple On is Back!

Hello!  I'm back!  It's been a while but I have been so busy getting adjusted to all the new in my life.  The hubster and I moved into our new home in early July and I am LOVING it. After spending all of our married life in rentals it is so different and fun to call something your own and be able to make it your own!

The last days of school with my class in May were awesome.  We had alot of moments that I will never forget and I shed alot of tears but felt like I left things just exactly as I wanted to.

Since May I have been trying to figure out what my new calling in life should be and what I should make of this blog but for now I have been getting my "classroom fix"  by helping out some of my favorite people...my dad and Chelsie from To Second Grade, With Love! She is new to the blogging world and is doing and AMAZING job! {Hi Chelsie! Give that baby boy of your a cuddle for me!}

Another thing that I've been doing is teaching Sunday school. It has definitely been a challenge for me but it is also a big blessing!  Here are some of the handouts I have made for my class of 13-14 year old kids (I know...absolutely terrifying coming from 6-7 year old kids).

Scriptures made out of Hershey's Nuggets...idea found here!

Welp...that's just a little bit of what's been going on with me. I am happy to be back and ready to help you! I will be back soon with a contest or giveaway of some sort. As a thank you for sticking with me I have a little freebie for you! Click the picture below to get your copy of fall context clues!

Apple on...pause

I have been waiting to write this post. I have known for a while that this year would be my last year of teaching. I am not sure when I will go back if I ever do.  My husband and I are moving to a new city and he has a great job that will support both of us as we start our family and buy our first home (yay!).

These last weeks have been and will bring many moments that I want to cherish.  I don't know when I will get back to blogging and creating new things for my store but I hope to sometime this summer.  Best wishes for last days full of fun, quickness, relaxation, patience, love, and whatever else you each need!  Apple on!

Currently March and Dr. Seuss' (Belated Birthday)

(Hop on over and see Farley here!)

Oh happy day! It is March...I know it is 5 whole days into March. We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday all last week by reading his books and doing this fun activity with "Green Eggs and Ham." I made my students a treat for the occasion.  I bought vanilla candy coating, melted it and put a green M&M and pretzels (to represent ham). I got the idea from this pin I pinned on Pinterest a while back. Then we wrote about what other green food we do not like!  Here are some samples...first grade translation provided for free :)

"I do not like green chicken. I would not eat it when the dog barks.  I would not eat it in the parks."

"I do not like green meat. I would not eat them on a roof. I would not eat them with a tooth."

"I do not like green pizza. I would not eat it with a bear. I would not eat it in a lair."

I wholeheartedly agree with that last one!  Who wants to eat with a bear?!?  Too cute and they had so much fun!  Happy belated birthday Dr. Seuss!  Apple on everyone!

Rodeo, Dr. Seuss, and Science Project (update)

This past week we had rodeo break...it is like having Thanksgiving in February!  The kiddos and I went to school Monday to Wednesday and then we get Thursday and Friday off...for the rodeo of course (shhh! I've never been to the rodeo!)

Wednesday was something else!  Let me tell you...I had one puker (he didn't make it to the trash can) and then shortly after I had another (he did make it to the trash can).  The morning was slow and kids were leaving school left and right.  At lunchtime it was sunny and fifty minutes later...it started snowing and in southern AZ that is a BIG deal!  Here is a picture of our playground.

I did take the kiddos out...who wouldn't...they were beyond ecstatic!  I am pretty sure none of them had ever seen snow falling!

Dr. Seuss' birthday is on Saturday!   We have been celebrating all week by reading his books and learning about him. On Friday we are going to do this fun activity...I am sooooo excited for it and can't wait to show you the results!

These are the books we are reading.  Check out how they are laid on the table...nope not me...the kiddos did it.  Aren't they sweet?  It is apparent to me that they respect Dr. Seuss very much :)

Here is my science project update.....we won FIRST place just like I hoped (here)...and the project is going up to the next level and will be presented at the SARSEF (Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair).  I am super excited for my kiddos!  They were aksing me if any of my classes had ever won first place and I said, "Nope!  You are the first and you did such as awesome job!"  They were beaming!  I love my class this year!

Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!  Apple on everyone!

The Science Fair and Valentine's Day

Every year we have the science fair.  It seems to be the only time that I am able to fit in a genuine complete scientific type lesson.  The kids LOVE it!  This year we wondered about chips and if they are healthy for us.  I  gathered some of their favorite kinds of chips and one that I knew wouldn't be as greasy just to balance out their oh-so-healthy choices. We crushed the chips and put some on one inch graph paper for a week.  The paper absorbed the oil and we counted the squares to see which chip has the most.  Let me tell you...the chips have been off the papers for half a week and the oil is STILL spreading!  Grossness! The finished project will be placed in the hallway tomorrow...I secretly would like to win first place.  That would be awesome for my class!  When we were wrapping up our project one of my students was very distraught.  I asked him what was wrong and he was just holding his head in his hands and groaning.  He said, "But Cheetos are so good! I don't want to eat healthy chips!"

Valentine's day is coming!  Are you ready?  I tell my hubby that I would rather spend time with him than anything else and I surely don't need any more candy because I get TONS from my students!  Do you get loads of candy from your students?  I don't know how they figured out how much I like chocolate and sugary stuff!  I am giving my kiddos a heart shaped crayon and a book (it is also Love of Reading week).

I hope the rest of your week is great!  Apple on!
